A Minute to Myself
NP: Check the Rhime - Tribe Called Quest
I feel good.
So many colors and sounds and shapes and little things to appreciate. The little boy reading to his dad, and the dad really listening, as if they are the only two on the train. And the bachata that plays loudly outside of my headphones. My head nods to Phife and Tip but my hips move to the Congo drum, swaying with the grace of my Dominican grandmother that I've never met but have know protects me from bad nightmares, and walks with me as I live my dreams.
I am grateful for writing all night last night. I am grateful for finally making it to the post office to pick up my package from Australia this morning. I am grateful for this ll bean fleece jacket dress I'm wearing today. The goodwill never fails me. I am grateful for having my own style. I am grateful for the silence that just over came me when the music stopped playing. Gotta remember to make my tidal playlists available offline for when I'm underground.
I am grateful for all of the women that are coming to the tea on Saturday. I know they will really inspire the blossom girls.
I am grateful for the way this young high school jawn across from me stared at my outfit, long enough for me to know I'm lit. I'm grateful for wanting to give away more and more of my clothes.
I am grateful for love. Self love in particular, being able to stay grounded. I am grateful for learning and practicing the art of thinking things through, not being so impulsive, in order to protect my heart.
I am grateful for not having to be work at 7:30 AM, that was the greatest blessing of all time.
I am grateful for enjoying my craft again, teaching writing.
I am grateful for the spring. I am grateful for the weather breaking and sun being up earlier.
I am grateful for having to ride the train to work and having time to sit and meditate on what I am grateful for.
I am grateful for knee highs and boots. I am grateful wool hats when my hair is a mess.
I am grateful for my relationship with Spirit. I am grateful for learning how to be intimate with my inner voice. I am grateful for discernment, allowing me to make wise decisions.
I am grateful for forgiveness and it never being too late to apologize to myself and others. I am grateful for lessons in letting go, the hard ones will stick with me most.
I am grateful for my students, they all have been making my days so much smoother.
I am grateful for not needing anything, for having everything I need.
I am grateful for friends that check on me.
I am grateful for moving back to New York. I am grateful for having a peaceful apartment.
I am grateful for meditating and learning to keep myself balanced.
I am grateful for the line, "I don't really mind if it's over ya' head cause the job of the resurrector is to wake up the dead." -Tribe Called Quest -
